Mexico said Tuesday that one of two suspected killings of a 13-year-old girl in the northern state of Michoacan had left two more suspects dead.
Rappler, the state news agency, said Carlos Garcia Lopez, 43, confessed to killing her and she was buried Wednesday in a church cemetery with four more suspects, all Mexicans.
The girl was thought to have been among a group of girls who had gone missing in and around her town of Sinaloa, where her family lived and were last seen by police in March.
The two remaining suspects are under 21 years old and could face additional homicide charges, according to police. They remain in custody in Sinaloa.
Rappler said Garcia Lopez had asked the police for “his freedom” after he allegedly took the girl away from her family while they had planned to go to a drug bust in Mexico City on the morning of March 13. The girl’s mother told authorities that Garcia Lopez killed her and then shot himself in the head.
Mexico’s Attorney General, Luisa Ortega Diaz, on Wednesday described the girl as one of six teenage girls바카라사이트 in Sinaloa who had gone missing last year and remained unidentified or feared for their safety. She said the girl’s family had begun a search for her after her parents gave up hope of finding her.
The girl’s family members had been on the run for the past year, when they said the two women were kidnapped and were living in an illegal dormitory outside of Sinaloa City.
Ortega Diaz, in an interview with El Universal, said the girl was killed along with the other teen girls when she tried to escape the town with her mother. It is unclear how they went about leaving, but they were never seen or heard from again, according to El Universal.
The girl’s family described to reporters her mother as distraught, saying she wanted to let her daughter live, according to El Universal. They said he had wanted to take her back to Sinaloa but could not because of authorities’ suspicions.
Mexican Attorney General Luis Videgaray told reporters that they were the “first girls from our state to become missing in recent days.”
